AN INVITATION: STUDENT ASSISTANT POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Peace Friends and Colleagues!
My name is Savanna Sullivan, and some of you may remember me from the LuMin Conference in Austin last summer where I was representing the ELCA Strategy on HIV and AIDS. I now have the privilege of working with you all in a new capacity as the Director for Young Adult Programs at the ELCA, and I can’t wait to get started.
I am working with many of you, with LuMin board members, and with Don to dream up new collaborative efforts for our ministry together. I know you are all deeply invested in vocational leadership and ministry outside just ordained ministry, and I have what I believe is an exciting opportunity to engage some of your marketing and business-minded folks in the national church.
INVITATION: I’d like to invite 3-4 campus ministry students from across the country who are studying marketing/business/social media management (or who are interested in these fields) to help produce content for the ELCA Young Adult Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. It could be material they find online that they think might interest young adults, cross-posting from another pertinent page, or original content. All content would need to be approved by me.
TIME COMMITMENT: VERY part-time commitment, as we’d need about one content piece per week from each student. I anticipate this being a commitment of no more than 2-3 hours per week. We would also have a brief 30 to 45 min call twice a month. My hope is to have folks commit to a full school year in the future, but to start it will just be a commitment for the next spring semester (Jan – May).
BENEFIT TO STUDENTS: This assistantship would:
- provide students outside academic religious study to engage with the church through the lens of their own vocation;
- provide concrete experience helping to manage the social media page of an international program – reaching thousands of people with their content;
- serve as volunteer hours for class/club/resume requirements; and
- provide portfolio material for future job searches.
PROCESS: I hope you will talk with students you think may be a good fit for this and then nominate them by sending me their name, year in school, email address, and telephone number. I will reach out to set up an interview with them.
Please email me with any questions or concerns.
